3 Week Project
Umeå Institute of Design: Graphic Design Course, 2018/2019 Mentors: Niklas Andersson, Anne Kathrine Nissen (Daresay Digital Agency)
My Role
Since this was a one person project I was part of the whole process from start to finish.
Facts
This was a self-initiated student project and not in any official cooperation with an airline.
Graphics done in Sketch and Animations in Principle.
How can we create a new Flight Attendant Panel (FAP) by using the branding of Lufthansa?
The challenge
The challenge of this 3-week course was to redesign 3 functions of a Graphic User Interface (GUI) of Flight Attendant Panel for an airline of our choice.
The FAP is the interface used by the flight attendants to determine the current status of the airplanes doors, the cabin and restrooms. It enables the flight attendant to control functions such as light, temperature, water tanks and calls of passengers.
The research
Sadly there was no time given during the course to do any research except about the branding of the chosen airline. Task was to jump right into the graphic design and focus on redesigning current functions.
Since this project was done over Christmas I was trying to observe the flight attendants operating the FAP during my flights from Sweden to Germany and back as well as briefly question the flight attendants while boarding and deplaning.
The final result
The final results are the following functions of the FAP:
1) Login into the Program
2) Getting an Overview of the current Cabin Status (Light, temperature, sound and water tanks)
3) Checking and setting up the Cabin Status for Boarding/Deplane
4) Hospitality of Passengers, showing what they wish for etc.
5) Case of Emergency (e.g. Smoke detection)
6) Screen when locked to give crew and passing passengers basic information (No Smoking, Seatbelt, Restroom, Flight Status etc.)
